I think about all the “used” things I have bought or seen at thrift stores or antique shops. ![]() ![]() During our lives, we are obsessed with objects that mean something to us or hold onto them because they meant something to someone else. It is often a pleasant memory although it can frequently be tinged with sadness. Nostalgia is something that hits us all at one time or another, but increasingly so later in life. Many of the objects I depict represent items that were owned by my own family members. Recently, the overriding theme of my work has been one of nostalgia with some of my paintings and drawings drawing from the Vanitas style of painting which use symbolism to remind viewers of the transience of life, the futility of pleasure, and the certainty of death. I have also created art in different styles such as naturalistic Realism, Impressionism and Expressionism. During the last 15 years or more I have experimented with a variety of different media such as watercolor, acrylic, pastels and charcoal. I come from an artistic family so I have always loved art in many forms. She works out of her studio in Broomfield and is also a member artist and teacher at pARTiculars Art Gallery and teaching studio in Lafayette, CO. She graduated in 2021 with a BFA in Art at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Her choice of subject matter varies from portraits of animals and people, landscapes, still-life and more. She has done many private commissions as well as book covers and also art for local theatre productions. Nostalgia is a frequent theme of her work, but she has also addressed social issues such as homelessness and world conservation. She is primarily an artist of naturalistic realism but has experimented with other styles such as expressionism and impressionism. Laurie Adams works primarily in watercolor but also utilizes a variety of media, such as acrylic, charcoal, collage, pencil, water-based oils, glass and more. ![]()
